How to enable the sustained integration of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) skills in formal education?
What are the approaches for ensuring the effectiveness of MIL projects in formal, informal, and non-formal education?
How to help young people become powerful actors in building the critical minds of their peers?
How can MIL reinforce journalism?
The South East Europe Regional Conference on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) will gather 4 multistakeholder panels for discussions aimed at answering these questions, among others. The conference will be held on 21 October ahead of the Global MIL Week, celebrating its central theme for the year 2021 – ‘Media and Information Literacy for the public good” and gathering relevant stakeholders in the region working in MIL. The event is organized by UNESCO within its EU-funded project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe and Turkey – Phase 2.”
The event will take place in a hybrid format, with the moderator, a journalist from BiH, Hana Sokolovic, interacting with speakers in the United Nations House in Sarajevo, as well as via ZOOM with the speakers connecting online. The wider public is invited to consult details regarding panels and speakers by accessing the event webpage and to connect to follow the conference online, signing up with the event registration link.
I look forward to hearing to the discussions of the event and taking stock of the initiatives and developments about Media and Information Literacy in the region. Such a regional conference is key to share experiences and knowledge that can help anyone strengthen their initiative to promote the critical thinking skills needed to navigate the online world.
Sinisa Sesum, Head of UNESCO Antenna Office in Sarajevo of Regional Bureau
