This document refers to Media and information literacy (MIL) as the composite concept, including all media and information sources, promotes the individual’s rights, and takes a multistakeholder approach. This concept integrates all notions of information and media competencies (knowledge, skills, and attitude) important for the evaluation of information and media content. This includes competencies in relation to new media or digital environments. While policy and strategy in Serbia often make the distinction and focus on either media literacy, information literacy or digital literacy, etc., this document takes a broader approach, applying the composite concept of MIL.

This document was developed within the first phase of the UNESCO’s EU-funded project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe and Turkey”.
