The purpose of the document is to stimulate discussion on the role of civil socity organisations in the process of integration and improvement of Media and Information Literacy (MIL) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). BiH still does not have a strategy and policy on the integration and promotion of MIL and is currently in the process of developing strategic principles that will shape future reflections on MIL. Despite the exhaustive engagement of civil society actors and the recommendations of the European Union, public institutions have not yet recognized the civil society sector as a true partner in this process. The Institute for Social Research of the Faculty of the Political Science University of Sarajevo has developed a model of horizontal and vertical integration of MIL in BiH, which is offered as an advocacy platform that ultimately guarantees the sustainability and feasibility of future interventions.
This document was produced within UNESCO’s EU-funded project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe and Turkey – Phase 2,” launched in November. The three-year project aims to, among others, enhance the MIL skills among youth by piloting MIL components in formal and non-formal education systems, training education staff, and building MIL capacities of youth organisations.
