The purpose of the document is to supplement the “Position Study on Media and Information Literacy Policies and Strategies in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” prepared by the Institute for Social Research of the Faculty of Political Sciences, the University of Sarajevo, in 2018. This update (2020) presents the key efforts for improving Media and Information Literacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the progress made in implementing the recommendations compared to the period covered by the previous Position Study. The Position Study from 2018 clearly explains why MIL is important and which strategic approach would be optimal for improving MIL in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In terms of concretizing the strategic determinants of the position study from 2018, efforts to develop a model of horizontal and vertical integration of MIL in Bosnia and Herzegovina were continued in a sustainable and feasible way.

This document was produced within UNESCO’s EU-funded project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe and Turkey – Phase 2,” launched in November. The three-year project aims to, among others, enhance the MIL skills among youth by piloting MIL components in formal and non-formal education systems, training education staff, and building MIL capacities of youth organisations.
